The web is constantly evolving. And so are the needs and expectations of site owners. Only a decade ago, website development was just for the happy few who knew how to program HTML. Nowadays anyone can learn how to build their own website.
For those who do not want to learn how to program, but still want the ability to change the content of their websites themselves, more and more options for Content Management Systems (CMS) exist. But, beware! Cutting the web designer out of the process also means loosing his or her expert advice on what (not) to do.
So, asking a web designer or Internet consultant for a quick scan every 3-12 months (depending on how many updates you make on the site) can help you prevent costly mistakes that may hurt your search engine visibility, or the user experience that visitors have on your website.
Content Management Systems are only as good as the people using them, otherwise they can very easily turn into Content MisManagement Systems.
